Answer

Economics of Cybersecurity Strategy

The United States will continue to improve its cybersecurity infrastructure for deterrence purposes. This vision is in line with the country’s acceptance of the moral and social responsibilities that come with leading in a highly networked world. With over eighty percent of Americans having access to the internet, it is imperative to focus a lot on the economics of cybersecurity strategy. One way in which the United States will seek to enhance the strategy is by addressing issues relating to tax breaks, incentives and regulation.

ORDER NOW

Tax breaks constitute an excellent policy mechanism for encouraging stakeholders to reduce vulnerability as well as improve capabilities relating to recovery and reconstitution (Bauer & Van Eeten, 2009). Tax breaks should also be used in the cybersecurity strategy to promote practices that discourage the stealing of proprietary information of individuals, companies, and federal agencies. However, these protective measures should be undertaken in a manner that does not stifle interconnectedness and free sharing of general information. Such efforts will lead to a tremendous improvement in the infrastructure on which economic activities are undertaken within the cyber domain.

On the other hand, economic incentives will play a critical role in ensuring that the U.S. economy continues to operate even when confronted with the ever-growing threat of a cyber-attack (Alderson & Hoo, 2004). Failure to introduce these incentives in the realms of infrastructure as well as intellectual property will lead to the continuation of a worrying trend in the past whereby the achievement of a secure and robust cyberspace had become a mirage. To create an ideal cyber environment for economic activities to be undertaken in a vibrant manner, various incentives as well as the social, legal, and technological factors underlying them will need to be embraced. For instance, such incentives must incorporate efforts to protect all U.S. trade secrets at all costs (Richards, Shackelford & Stemler, 2015). To achieve these objectives, the U.S. national; cybersecurity strategy must strike a balance between restricting access of vital cyber tools to rogue nations and the vigilant maintenance of the principle of interconnectedness that is the basis of today’s ecommerce success (Shapiro & Varian, 2013).
