1.Identify and evaluate the restorative practice goals of TRC and methods employed to reach these goals in Canada
In Canada, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was introduced to respond and address the harms that were carried out by the Indian Residential school system. The main goals of the TRC in Canada include knowing the truth and campaigning for reconciliation. The designs and activities have been interrogated to gain insight into its potential and give Canada the chance to forget about the trauma they have gone through and build a bright future.
Some of the therapeutic practice goals include victim centredness. This is encouraging victims to gain strength to tell their stories and concentrating on their needs. Some of the restorative justice practitioners, such as Robert, stated that to overconme the damage that people have caused, the needs of the people who have been affected must be given priority. The victims need to be provided with the relevant support to explain power imbalances duringtherapeutic encounters. Victims should be provided with the necessary supportive environment that includes family and friends toshare their experiemces withpout feeling insecure freely. Restorative justice practice positions victims as the center of attraction, thus recognizing their role in resolving conflicts.
Another restorative practice goal is inclusiveness and engagement. During restorative encounters, the victims should be involved and allowed to engage with all the affected members (Czyzewski, 2016, p12). Restorative processes should ensure that the people responsible for the abuse caused are given a chance to engage in repairing the harm they have caused. Aboriginal practices uphold inclusiveness as a fundamental principle. Restorative encounters that include healing circles are often open so that people can express how they have been affected by what they have done wrong.
Restoration of the victims’ identities, respect, and dignity is also another goal of TRC. This aims to restore the uniqueness of the respective victims that might have been caused by Injustice, including committing crimes and violating fundamental rights. This restoration can occur through educating the public about the wrongs that have been committed by these people. The victims are given a chance to speak to the public about the wrongs they have committed, which helps. They are restoring their respective identities. They also publicly acknowledge the crimes they have committed to hence restoring their public social identity.
There are several methods that Canada has implied to achieve these TRC goals. This includes having knowledge and understanding the history of colonization in Canada. There are people in Canada who grew up without knowledge of residential schools. Learning about history is essential because it enables people to know the issues faced by these indigenous people. Through understand and respecting diversity Canada has been able to achieve the TRC goals.
Also, Canada has built a culture that composes of open and respectful communication. Some staff members found it uncomfortable to ask about the myths they heard from their childhood. Through having open discussions, members feel free to communicate and ask about indigenous awareness. Canada has also been keen to ensure that their reconciliation strategies do not stagnate. Through staying focused, Canada has been able to achieve the set of TRC goals.

The goals of restorative are all geared towards the well being and comfort of every individual. Among the goals of TRC is supporting regional restorative practice networks, which will enable excellent and effective conflict resolution to every person in even the most marginalized part of Australia. Supporting beneficial local systems for every place in Australia promotes and gives every person a chance to have peace and fairways to heal the harm. Another goal is to promote restorative practices in specific professions that lack the same. Many of Australia’s different jobs lack straightforward restorative ways, which brings a lot of confusion and ineffectiveness when attempting to solve conflicts that arise in such areas. Every available profession which involves people’s interactions will have some disagreements, and in such situations, restorative practices should be well laid down for such cases. Another goal is that after some time, all the professionals and people dealing and interacting with others will soon all have the required therapeutic skills to counter all the conflicts in different workplaces.
Another goal of TRC is to provide national convenor accreditation across the whole of Australia. A convenor is any person taking part and who, in this case, facilitates a group conference or similar structured restorative group meeting.TRC is working towards the national recognition of such people everywhere they go as they are critical people in the society when it comes to conflict solving. Fostering and improving a significant public policy is another principal aim that TRC is looking to achieve. Every member of the community knows what is expected of him or her in every conflict-solving situation. The methods which TRC has employed to attain these goals are well set up and thought about. Among the methods, TRC is looking to increase its reflective practice networks by having direct personal response facilitators. It will be easy to plan for activities that support regional communities’ practice and professional communities’ practice by having such people (Holder, 2018, pg.472). By taking the committees nearer to the people or institutions who need them, TRC makes sure that anyone who needs help gets it without much struggle.
TRC is also very supportive of developing a national accreditation system for the so-called convenors. Whenever individuals or a group of people need such people can find them easily without much struggle. For this reason, the association is promoting a simple system built based on local peer support and reflective practice to attain their goal TRC has a list of accredited and well-known convenors with their contacts for any person or institution who requires their services to get them with ease. Australian TRC has also come up with seminars, which are often called Restorative Engagement Conferences, and are led by the accredited convenors to solve existing problems and train the public on how to solve disputes in a very logical manner. More than sixty certified facilitators have been selected to be in charge of those panels. They are the same facilitators with the mandate and qualifications to facilitate Direct Personal Response meetings.
