English 101 Paper

11 November 2014.

  1. What did you gain from writing this essay?

By writing this essay, I gained a lot of knowledge on how to arrange my ideas into coherent arguments. I learned a lot about the importance of categorizing ideas into paragraphs. I also benefited a lot from insights into ways of looking for information from books, journal articles, and commentaries. At the same time, I started paying attention to the various punctuation errors that I made while writing the paper. It did not occur to me that proofreading it an important way of polishing any written piece of work in terms of grammar, spelling, and overall layout.

  • What did you gain from the feedback you received?

The feedback that I received from my instructor was very constructive. He pointed out some of the grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors that I was not able to pinpoint while editing my paper. For this reason, I learned that it is important to proofread a paper more than once. My friends were particularly critical of my shallow analysis of the theme of negative aspects of social media. They disagreed with me regarding the accuracy of some of the facts I presented in my essay. For this reason, I was forced to go look for more accurate information. In the future, I intend to crosscheck different sources before writing the essay.

  • What would you do differently if you had a shot at another draft?

If I had a shot at another draft, the one thing that I would do first and foremost is to proofread the essay. While reading it, I would correct punctuation mistakes while at the same time comparing information provided by different sources to ascertain its accuracy. Moreover, I would look at the theme of each paragraph to ensure that it is communicated succinctly in the topic sentence. I would also remember to write a thesis sentence in the first paragraph to enable me to maintain focus throughout the essay. Lastly, I would avoid writing too long paragraphs because my peers found them too cumbersome to read!
